The Choice to "Suck it Up" and Go For It

The easy choices come and go with little thought or emotion. However, our more life-defining choices – such as making a career change, starting a new business, moving away for a new opportunity, standing up for a cause we really believe in or doing “that thing” we’ve always wanted to do – can give us pause, even create fear within us. This fear can slow us down, big time, causing us to make “a safe choice” or, in some instances, no choice at all.

However, it’s important to note that fear can impact us in both positive and negative ways. Obviously, it’s a negative thing when fear scares us away and keeps us from doing anything at all. On the other hand, "running scared" can be a very positive condition…causing us to work longer and harder than we ever have, causing us to pay more attention to the details, causing us to listen more intently to those around us…all important ingredients in achieving success.

So, if you’re going to do something exceptional with your life, you must not let fear hold you back. Reach inside and call on yourself to make that all-important choice, even in the face of that fearful feeling. In other words, there will be times in your life when you simply have to “suck it up” and go for it. In those moments, rely on the desires of your heart and the logic in your head to support the choice that you want to make. Don’t let fear keep you from doing something unique and wonderful with your life – after all, that’s what you’re here for.

There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them. Denis Waitley
