Thoughts

Welcome to the newest section of the Good Choices Good Life website. We hope you will find these "thoughts" about life and choices helpful as you go about your daily life. We will be adding two of three new Thoughts to this section each week, so please check back with us often to see what's here.

These Thoughts are a collection of our Facebook postings, some short stories taken from the book Good Choices Good Life and content developed especially for this new section.

Would you like to receive a copy of our new, 48-page booklet titled Choice Thoughts? Starting April 1, all supporters donating $30 or more to Good Choices Good Life will receive a copy from us. GCGL is an approved nonprofit so all donations are tax deductable. If you would like to help us expand this work, just click on one of the donate buttons here on the site and help us help others "make better choices" in their lives.

The Choice to Embellish Others; Not Yourself »

The story of the moment is about a national news anchor who apparently embellished the facts to appear more important to his news audience. This was a very poor choice on his part, and he was relieved of duty for six months. But, most of us have done similar things.

The Choice of (High) Expectations »

When I was very young, my mother always told me that "you have to have something to look forward to." I thought she was talking about going out, playing with my friends and having fun. However, as I got older, I started to understand what she really meant...

Selfish Choices Vs Unselfish Choices »

We are all a little "me" oriented. It's important that we look out for ourselves and those around us. However, there are times when we take our right of personal choice a bit too far.

The Choice to be the Leader of Your Life »

Every successful business has effective leadership. The same is true of governmental entities, nonprofit organizations, medical facilities, farming operations and thousands of other operating groups. For the overall effort to be well coordinated and produce successful results, capable leadership must be present. This important ingredient even extends to families...

The Motivation to Cancel Your Flight to Impatience  »

I’ve sat through two cancelled flights today. When talking to the gate agent, she said “I’m so surprised how calm and easy-going you are about this”.

I'm not surprised she's shocked I'm being calm. I’ve sat in too many airports to know the truth.

Letting Love into Your Life »

Suddenly you just feel it.

You don’t know where it came from or exactly what created it, but all of a sudden you detect this special feeling…about someone in your life, or about something you are doing or wanting to do.

The Choice to be Tolerant of Other Views »

There is an old saying that "the truth is in the middle somewhere." It's a reference to the fact that many times, in spite of strongly opposing opinions, the truth lies somewhere between the two extremes.

Giving to Others »

A True Story

Oseola McCarty was born in Wayne County, MS on March 7, 1908. She had to quit school in the sixth grade to help her family make ends meet and to care for her aunt and grandmother. For income, she took in laundry and ironing at a rate of $1.50 a bundle.

The Motivation to Love Yourself »

Sometimes I think of six impossible things before breakfast. But not like Alice. My six impossible thoughts are usually about my body.

The Choice to Text Less and Listen More »

It's important to note that every day presents us with opportunities to have meaningful conversations with those around us, to hear what they have to say and to share our thoughts and feelings with them. This is absolutely impossible to do when we act like our phone is more important than they are.
